Michael Sherman is, without question, an absolute klutz. And we mean Klutz with a capital K. Seriously! For 17 years Michael was a creative tornado, creating award winning instructional products for Klutz Books in Palo Alto, CA. As a writer, designer and creative director, he oversaw the development of hundreds of award winning products that taught kids how to imagine, learn and make things with their own hands. Of note, his signature wit and dynamic design can be seen in titles such The Superhero Starter Kit Star Wars Thumb Doodles, Dr. Frankensketch’s Monster Drawing Machine, and Coin Blaster Arcade (The book that transforms into a shooting gallery. For real.)
Prior to tenure at Klutz, Michael was on board in the founding years of OddzOn Products, the company that gave the world the Koosh Ball. Known as “the art department”, Michael created everything from product to packaging to press releases. Most famously, Michael developed The Kooshlings, Koosh Ball characters from the pom-pom planet Koosh, of course.
Michael credits his creative abilities to being open to suggestion and positive about outcomes. These are traits that have been reinforced by his love and professional training of improvisation. As he says, “The first rule of improv commands you to say yes. This almost automatically leads you to great scenes or ideas that uncertainty or fear would otherwise block.”
When not behind a drawing board or at the computer, Michael can be found onstage as an improviser, actor, musician and presenter. Check out http://www.schoolcraftandmurray.com/ for his current band.
Michael is a heck of a lot of fun. Period.
